*Kenshin Himura*
Kenshin is a swordsman who fights using Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, though he only fights to protect people and will only draw his sword if neccesary. Kenshin's real name was Shinta Himura until he met Seijiro Hiko who changed it to Kenshin (Kenshin means heart of sword) because Shinta didn't sound like a strong name. Kenshin is also known as the Battousai the Manslayer to his enemies such as Saitou and Shishio. Kenshin's cross-shaped scar shows who he is and also is a reminder of a rough past. Kenshin is often mistaken for a girl and his short stature and girlish looks often mislead opponents. Kenshin lives at the Kamiya Dojo along with Sanosuke and Yahiko. He also does laundry and plays with Ayame and Suzume here. *Kaoru Kamiya*
Kaoru is owner of the Kamiya Dojo where she teachs the Kamiya Kasshin Ryuu, which is meant to teach one to help people and not to kill, to her only student, Yahiko Myojin. Kaoru may look weak beside Kenshin and Sanosuke, but she is actually rather strong. Kaoru can't cook occording to Sano and Yahiko, but Kenshin doesn't seem to mind very much. Kaoru fears that Kenshin will leave her dojo and she will be alone again. She also falls in love with Kenshin eventually. Kaoru is smart, strong, independent, and sometimes very emotional. *Ayame and Suzume*
Ayame and Suzume are Dr. Gensai's grandchildren. Dr. Gensai is friends with Kaoru Kamiya and same goes for Ayame and Suzume. Kenshin is seen playing with Ayame and Suzume in various episodes of the anime.

*Yahiko Myojin*
Yahiko comes from a family of samurais and has the potential and spirit to learn swordsmanship. Yahiko is Kaoru's only student at the Kamiya Dojo and uses a wooden sword made of bamboo like Kaoru. Thanks to Kenshin, he has picked up on some of the move from the Hiten Mitsurugi style. He likes a whose name is Tsubame, who works as a waitress at the Akabeko. *Sanosuke Sagara*
Sanosuke was in the Sekihou Tai. The captain of the Sekihou Tai was Captain Souzou Sagara which is where Sanosuke got his last name. Souzou Sagara treated Sanosuke like a younger brother and earned Sanosuke's full respect. Then the members of the Sekihou Tai were all killed though with Souzou's help Sano escaped. Now Sanosuke is a fighter for hire and changes his name to Zanza. He reveals his real name after he is beaten by Kenshin in a fight and then becomes part of Kenshin group. *Age: 19 *Height: 179cm(about 6ft) *Weight: 71kg(about 165lbs.) *Blood Type: B *Hobbies: gambling, partying, drinking, leeching food(mostly from the Akkabeko), fighting(for fun and profit) His weapons are: Zanbatou(huge sword), fists
*Megumi Takani*
Megumi is a doctor in training with Dr. Gensai. Megumi's family was prestigious in the medical field. During the Aizusensou, she lost her father and was seperated from her mother and two brothers. Megumi first met Kenshin and Sano when she was running from one of the Oniwabanshuu (at the time Aoshi was working with Kanryu Takeda) and happened to pop-in on them gambling. Kenshin and Sano saved her from the man and she stuck around with them for a while. She made opium for Kanryu Takeda and now blames herself for the deaths of the people who took the opium. At first, she seems cold-hearted and selfish, but later shows her true self, one who is lost in the world, searching for family and friends. She likes to tease and has interests in Kenshin, which Kaoru does not like at all. Sanosuke calls her fox lady. *Age: 22 *Birthday: December, 1857 *Blood type: B *Hair: black *Eyes: brown *Weight: 45kg (99lbs) *Height: 166cm (5' 5")
*Misao Makimachi*
Misao is a member of the Oniwabanshuu along with Aoshi. She is a skilled fighter but often jumps in where she's not needed. She meets up with Kenshin after Kenshin leaves the Kamiya Dojo to go back to Kyoto to fight Shishio. They meet up in the woods when Kenshin finds some men in the woods who are robbers and thieves. Misao tracks them too. After they start talking, something brings up the subject about the Oniwaban and Aoshi and Kenshin tries to leave but Misao refuses to leave until he tells her about Aoshi and the other Oniwaban members. At one point Misao makes Kenshin promise to find Aoshi and bring him back to them there. During the fight with Shishio, Misao makes herself Okashira of the Oniwabanshuu in Aoshi's place. Misao is (obviously) in love with Aoshi. *Age: 16 *Weight: 37kg (82lbs) *Height: 148cm (4' 10")

*Hajime Saitou*

Hajime Saitou was leader of the 3rd squad of the Shinsengumi. He is a policeman and goes by the name Fujita Gorou though some still know him as Saitou. He uses the Gatotsu for fighting. The Gatotsu is used in the Shinsengumi though Saitou is the only one to have mastered the left-handed Gatotsu. There are many different stances of the Gatotsu and Saitou's strongest is the Zero stance. He and the whole Shinsengumi live by the motto Aku Soku Zan which means Kill Evil Instantly (is also said other ways depending on how you find it) Saitou is first introduced when he goes to the Kamiya Dojo to "see" Kenshin. Unfortunatly, Sanosuke is the only one still at the dojo at the time. When Saitou arrives he is acting as a salesman wanting to sale stuff to them. Sano sees through the disguise but is still not sure whats going on. When Sano realizes something isn't right, it's too late and Saitou reveals a hidden sword he was carrying. Saitou uses the Gatotsu technique on Sano and is thrust through the dojo wall. As Sano is a very stubborn person, he refuses to stop fighting now and gets back to his feet. Saitou strikes him again in the shoulder and Sano is knocked unconscious. When Kenshin and everyone arrive back at the dojo they find Sano unconscious and Kenshin realizes something isn't right. After a while Saitou returns to the dojo again but as a policeman doing his job. He fools them into letting him stay at the dojo until Kenshin returned. When Kenshin returns he recognizes Saitou automatically. They begin a battle and Kenshin reverts to his Battousai side. Sano, who was still unconscious at the time, wakes up and comes to where Saitou and Kenshin are fighting. He says only someone from that era could stop them from fighting. Saitou and Kenshin continue to fight until each is close to death. Each is about to deliver a final blow when someone (ironically) arrives. They stop their fight though Saitou promises he will return to continue the fight someday. Saitou helps in the battle against Shishio also. He battles and defeats Usui of the Jupongatana. After Shishio dies, the room that they are in begins to explode and head for the door. The door is metal and cannot be opened so Saitou uses Gatotsu to break it down even with the injuries he had. As the ground underneath them start to break they go for the door. Saitou, purposely, stays behind, and everyone else gets out. Saitou finds a way out of the place and meets up with Cho, a former member of the Jupongatana. The others think he is dead. Saitou says he will eventually return to fight his battle with the Battousai. *Age: 35 *Birthday: January 1, 1844 *Hair: black *Eyes: yellow(amber) *Weight:71kg (158lbs.) *Height: 183cm(6'0") *Blood type: O *Most people don't realize Saitou was a real person and the Shisengumi was a real group also. *Aoshi Shinomori*
Aoshi is the leader (okashira) of the Oniwabanshu. He has been Okashira since he was 15. The other members of the Oniwaban that were close to him were Hannya, Beshimi, Hyottoko, and Shikijou. They were all killed at one place by Kanryu Tikada who had a gattling gun secretly stashed away. Ever since they were killed, Aoshi has promised them that he will not put flowers on there graves until he defeated Kenshin the battousai. In the end, Kenshin defeats Aoshi and Aoshi realizes he was wrong about himself. He is loved deeply by Misao and once took care of her until they all left. Aoshi uses kodachis, or short katanas. He uses the Kenpo style for offense. He also uses Kaiten Kenbu which is a move to confuse his enemies before attacking. *Age: 26 *Birthday: January, 1853 *Eyes: Ice blue *Hair: black *Blood Type: A *Height: 182cm *Weight: 72kg

*Seijuro Hiko*
Seijuro Hiko is Kenshin's master and taught Kenshin the Hiten Mitserugi Ryuu Kenshin fights with now. He is the 13th successor of the Hiten Mitsurugi style. Hiko also teaches Kenshin the ultimate technique of the Hiten Mitserugi Ryuu, the Amakakeiru ryu no Hiremeki. In order to teach Kenshin the last attack, he almost died battling Kenshin. Which (in my own words) scares the crap out of Kenshin. Kenshin asks him if he will protect the people at the Aoiya while he battled Shishio. He refused, but did appear at the last moment and helped save the lives of them all. His weapon is the Nihontou. Hiko calls Kenshin "my stupid apprentice" and teases Kenshin about his childhood incidents. *Age: 43 *Birthday: October *Blood type: O *Weight: 87kg (192lbs.) *Height: 189cm(6'2")

*Makoto Shishio*
Shishio is the leader of the Jupongatana and is also very strong. Shishio has burns all over his body and is why he is always wearing bandages. Shishio once was a manslayer who took the place of Kenshin after Kenshin laid down his role as Battousai the Manslayer. The police caught Shishio and burned him alive. He's nerves system was burned away and he says he feels as if the flames of Hell burn inside of him everyday. In this condition, he can only fight up to 15 minutes at a time with out some sort of relaxing for his nerves. This also is a reason for his death during the fight with Kenshin, Saitou, Aoshi, and Sanosuke. He is in love Umi Komagata who also dies in the fight. By the Jupongatana, he is called Lord Shishio. When he became the battousai's successor, he was known as the shadow assassin.
